Google My Business (GMB) profiles ensure that people looking for a particular product or service in their area can get to know local businesses with a simple Google search. There are many ways to optimise a GMB profile, although one of the most effective ones is to get reviews.

Reviews, in general, can affect both a GMB page and its map pack ranking, making it easier for potential customers to find the business. Moreover, reviews will give these local businesses more credibility and trust over competitors who don’t have an optimised page. All of these factors combined will result in a much more improved Google ranking for local SEO.

In most cases, leaving a GMB review only takes a few minutes, as long as you already have a Gmail account. You must click on the “Write a Review” option in the “Reviews” page for the business, leave a rating and comment, and you’re good to go! Unfortunately, not everyone has a Gmail account, and not everyone will be eager to create one just to leave a single review.

The following article will walk you through what you can do to leave a GMB review if you don’t have a Gmail account.

How Do You Leave a Review Without a Gmail Account?

In short, it is possible to leave a review without a Gmail account. You will have to create a Google account with your existing email address so that the platform allows you to leave a review. Thankfully, the process is simple, and it won’t take you more than a few minutes to complete. Below is a step-by-step guide on everything you must do.

Step One – Find the GMB Profile and Click the Review Link

First, make sure to find the particular business you want to write the review for. As you probably did before, a quick Google search may make the profile come up. Once you find what you’re looking for, you will find a text alongside the rating that says “XX Google reviews.” That is known as the review link. Click in there, and then click on the “Write a Review” button. Clicking there will get you to Google’s sign-in page.

Step Two – Go into the “Create an Account” Section

Considering you don’t have a Google account, you will have to go into the “Create an Account” section. Once you click there, Google will give you three account options:

  • Account for Personal Use
  • Account for Your Child
  • Account for Work or Your Business

To make things faster, choose the “Personal Use” option.

Step Three – Go into “Create a Google Account”

Next, you will go to Google’s “sign-up” screen. You have the option of either creating a Gmail account or using your existing email address. Considering you don’t want to create a Gmail account, click on “Use my current email address instead.” you will get another screen that will prompt you to fill out some information, including the following:

  • Current email address
  • Unique password (keep in mind this shouldn’t be the same password as your email password)

Once you’re done, click on the “Next” button.

Step Four – Verify Your Email Address and Fill Out the Required Information

Google will send you a six-digit code to your email inbox so that you can verify the account. Then, once you write the number down and click on “Next,” you will have successfully created a Google account with your current email address.   However, there are a couple more steps to follow!

Step Five – Agree to Google’s Privacy, Ad, and Miscellaneous Terms

Before you start writing your review, Google will ask you for some basic contact information, including your phone number, gender, and birthday. Your birthday is mandatory since that will tell Google if you meet the minimum age requirements to have an account. On the other hand, the phone number is optional. Finally, read through Google’s terms, and if you agree to everything, click on “I Agree” to finish the process.

Step Six – Leave Your Review

Once you’re done, you will get redirected to the review page. Feel free to choose any rating from one to five stars. If you want to get more specific, you could add some text explaining how your experience was and even a photo. When you finish writing your review, click “Post,” and you’re done!

Bottom Line

As you can see, leaving a GMB review without a Gmail account is easy, and it’s an excellent way to help a local business boost its rankings and local SEO footprint.
